The plans to extend the Eastgate Shopping Centre with a Multiplex Cinema and also new restaurants and cafes have been approved by the Council.
The owner, F and C Reit have confirmed that work will be begin on these extensions in “The next couple years”. F and C Reit, owned by Leo Noe, is a British-Israel company and is the largest owner of shopping malls in Israel. Leo is number 70 in the Times 2006 Rich List.
The extensions will consume around one fifth of the neighbouring Falcon Square although the cinema and restaurants are expected to boost night time economy and also daytime trading.
“The local community have really got behind our latest plans and it is good to see support from Crown Community Council who can see the economic benefits to the area,” said Jackie Cuddy.
According to the developers, the extended centre will also create 250 jobs to the 800 that already exist there. The cinema will make it easier for people to see a wider variety of films without having to drive to VUE. This makes it easier for non-drivers and younger people who can’t drive. It is also more convenient for people who are already in the town centre that day
The extension plan was made by Threesixty Architecture.
Although this would reduce the amount of skateboarding and other expressive sports in the Falcon Square area there has been a new 1200 square meter skate park opened near Bught Park and skaters alike will flock to the large concrete park.
Preformed metal panels will be backlit to liven the Falcon area when dark .
