Sutor Creek is a restaurant in Cromarty located by the harbour and its open Thursday to Sunday 12am-9pm. It is a small restaurant with a lot to offer.
The restaurant mainly focuses on pizzas which are cooked in a wood fired oven, they use homemade dough and a tomato based sauce. They also specialize in seafood caught in Scotland; Their Crabs and lobsters are caught locally from the harbour.
Sutor creek was opened in 2004 and the current owners Graham and Phoebe Fox bought it in 2010. The business struggled at first but now, “It’s a very successful business after increasing our customer base and turnover,” said Graham. Their specialities are pizzas which are cooked in a wood fired oven, the wood they use are offcuts from the local sawmill. The dough is made freshly in the morning using flour, water, olive oil, yeast and salt. They also make their own tomato sauce. They have a wide arrange of pizzas from Margherita to spicy chicken. Sutor Creek's Pizzas were featured in the Good Food Guide's Top 12 Pizza Places in May 2013 and they were the only Scottish restaurant on the list.
A successful business will want to expand but he said, “My location restricts me from expanding.” Perhaps that’s why they have opened a café called Couper’s creek which is a couple minutes’ walk away from Sutor Creek. It is open from 10am-4pm where you can get breakfast, lunch or a tasty snack such as home baking or delicious ice cream.
Graham is the head chef in Sutor creek and he has had a lot of experience as he used to be the private chef for Lord Anthony Bamford the owner of JCB. “My favourite part of the job is seeing empty plates come back to the kitchen” said Graham.
Sutor creek has a small kitchen, the size of a large bathroom, but that doesn’t hold him back from creating amazing and exquisite food. “I enjoy cooking because I have a very strong passion for food and quality.”
Phoebe also has had a lot of experience as she used to direct the marketing of the only five star hotel in North Carolina for nine years. They both run the restaurant together.
Brexit has already affected them as the prices of food and drink have gone up and they are worried about their business as tourists may not come to Scotland as much.
