Here in Fortrose Academy we are privileged to have so many talented people: singers, dancers, actors and athletes.

Caitlin Macleod, S2, started at just five years old, having a passion for dance. She has had many opportunities through dance; she is now part of the well-known Dance Company Ballet West. She had to go through a tough Ballet Class with the added pressure of constantly being watched by professional dancers.
Lots of people know what ballet West is and not just from the name, but how do you hear about the Auditions? “I heard about the audition through people how dance with me and then I learnt more about it through the website.” Auditions are never easy and the Ballet West ones certainly aren’t. “I was really nervous during and after the audition because there was lot of people there, they were all really good. I didn’t think I would get in because I didn’t think I had done very well in the audition and everyone was so good.” Lots of people know what ballet West is and not just from the name, but how do you hear about the Auditions? Since getting she has learnt a lot of new ballet moves, and feels she has really improved.
Caitlin dances in the Ballet West studios, Edinburgh, her Mother takes her down once a month to do long hard training on the Sunday. She does 3 different classes a yoga class, a contemporary class and a ballet class.
Caitlin said, “Ballet West is really fun and everyone is very nice it’s great.” When asked why she dances she replied, “I do it because it makes me really happy, it’s something I have fun with. I’m inspired by Maddie Ziegler (Former Dance Moms star and dances in Sia videos) because she has achieved so much yet she is still humble. I have worked with her dance teacher before ( Abby Lee Miller) and she was tuff on us and that was only a meet and greet so I know she has been pushed with dance, I also love the show.”
Thankfully Caitlin’s parents are really supportive and happy for her. “I think that they are really proud of me for getting in to Ballet West. I get really tired so they have to be supportive.” Caitlin’s Mum is always taking her to dance in action, Ballet West or Dance workshops!
In the October holiday she did a dace workshop with a Spanish choreographer called Jorge Crecis, and another Fortrose student, Lydia Buchan. On November 14th she went to Eden Court to join with dancers from Skye and preform their dance.
Dance is something so many people have a dying passion for. They need to be noticed more, they put their whole life towards dance and it’s amazing to watch them.
